Abstract
495,943. Valve amplifying circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. April 14, 1938, No. 11551. Convention date, May 4, 1937. [Class 40 (v)] To prevent reduction of the sensitivity of an amplifier employing negative feed-back, the feed-back of output signal components is reduced with respect to the feed-back of distortion components by injecting incoming signal voltages into the feed-back circuit. A portion, E2, of the output voltage of the amplifier V2, V3, obtained from a winding B1 is fed via a potentiometer P2, together with a portion of the input voltage E1 derived from a potentiometer P1, to the grid circuit of an auxiliary valve V1. These voltages are in opposite phase and equal so that the output from transformer T2 consists of the distortion components produced in amplifiers V2, V3. The secondary of transformer T2 is connected in the cathode circuit of the first amplifier valve V2 in such a way that the signals injected are of inverse phase with respect to the distortion signals. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the auxiliary valve has two control grids to which a portion of the input signal and the feed-back from the amplifier output are separately applied. The output circuit of this auxiliary valve is also shown coupled to the input of the second stage of the amplifier. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 467,833.
