Abstract
495,801. Circuits using gas-discharge tubes. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. (Western Electric Co., Inc.) May 21, 1937, No. 14183. [Class 40 (v)] In arrangements o gas - filled discharge tubes comprising a cathode, control grid and two anodes, pre ferably of the type described in Specification 437,167 ; the cir cuit in which it is de sired to produce a signal is connected to the anode with the highest breakdown voltage, and a circuit is connected to the other anode so that a discharge to it, initiated by a signal, transfers to the anode with the higher breakdown voltage and produces the signal output. The anodes A1, A2, Fig. 1, are maintained at positive potential and the inductive load L is connected to the anode A2 which has the highest breakdown voltage characteristic. The signal is applied by means of transformer T to the grid G, suitably biassed by potentiometer P and initiates a discharge through resistance R from A1, the discharge transferring to the anode A2 as rapidly as the inductance allows. Fig. 3 shows two tubes arranged so that the anodes A1 All, are connected in a multivibrator circuit with resistance-condenser combinations R, C, R<1>, C<1>, the discharge transferring as described to the anodes A2, A<1>2, and periodically operating the relay IR.
