Abstract
495,506. Linear - dimension gauges. BOLTON, E. Oct. 20, 1937, No. 28532. [Class 106 (ii)] Comprises a portable gauge having a slidable spindle connected to actuate a rotatable indicator, the axis of which is inclined at an angle, for example, of about 45 or 60‹ with that of the spindle. The casing 11 is provided with a bore for a spindle 12 which is slidable without rotation against the influence of a spring 13. A rack on the spindle gears with a pinion 14, the shaft of which carries a skew gear 16 from which the drive is taken to a pinion 17 which moves directly or through further gearing a pointer 18 rotatable in a plane disposed at an angle of 35 to 40‹ to the axis of the spindle 12. The pointer moves over a scale 19 which may be set by rotating a knurled ring 20 which is then clamped by a screw 21. The machined surface 22 is adapted to spigot into a supporting clamp. A similar spigot 23 is formed at right-angles and may also be used for this purpose. In another form, a bar of square section is adjustable in a slide which is provided with a spigot for securing to a support standing up from a base. The gauge is secured by its spigot 23 to the bar. In a further form, the support standing up from the base is adapted to receive the square section bar and the gauge is provided with a two-armed feeling lever, one end of which engages the work and the other the end of the spindle 12.
