Abstract

495,415. Luminescent materials. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and RANDALL, J. T. May 14, 1937, Nos. 13669 and 30395, (the second Provisional Specification being divided out of the first Provisional Specification). [Class 98 (i)] Magnesium tungstate or zinc tungstate is used as luminescent material outside the quartz or like envelope of a high-pressure mercury-vapour electric discharge lamp. Both materials have similar luminescent properties and efficiencies, being a very pale unsaturated blue. The material may be placed on the interior of a bulb enclosing the quartz envelope. The tungstates are prepared as described in Specifications 469,732 and 469,913. Luminescent material, e.g. zinc-cadmium sulphide activated by copper, may be added to emit red light, yielding a resultant flesh tint. Specifications 184,485, [Class 98 (ii)], 431,409, [Group XL], and 468,238 also are referred to.
