[Class 17 (ii)] A resilient plate B shaped to support the arch of the foot has a tongue 23 at its front end in sliding engagement with a slot 30 in the front end of a shank stiffener 15 placed between the inner and outer soles 12, 10 of a boot or shoe. The plate B has projecting portions at its front end bearing on the insole 12 and is fastened in the shoe at the rear on the outer edge only. An internally and externally screw-threaded sleeve 31 clamps by means of a nut 34 the insole 12 and shank stiffener 15 together, and the enlarged head 36 of a screw 35 engaged therein may be adjusted from outside the shoe to raise or lower the inner edge of the supporting plate B to afford the desired amount of support,
