[Class 108 (i)] In an ambulance vehicle having a sernicircular wheel-housing 4 projecting inside the vehicle body and in which a stretchercarrier is mounted above the housing close to the side of the vehicle, in order to prevent the carrier fouling the housing means are provided for raising automatically the inner end of the carrier when the latter is drawn downwards and outwards into a position in which its outer end is at floor-level for loading or unloading purposes, the carrier being mounted at its outer end on arms 7 pivoted to floor-brackets 9 and at its inner end on wheeled legs 11. As shown, the carrier comprises two rails 5 of channel-section to receive the stretcher wheels feet &c. and the wheels 14 on the legs 11 are adapted to run in grooved rails 15 extending longitudinally of the vehicle but inclined as shown so that as the carrier is moved into the position shown in broken lines, the wheels 14 ride up the rails 15, maintaining the carrier above the wheel-housing. The return movement is assisted by the wheels running down the rails 15, and, if desired, the portions 17 of the rails 15 farthest away from the wheelhousing may be inclined in the opposite direction similarly to facilitate rearward movement of the carrier. Buffer springs &c. may be provided to cushion the downward movement and the springs, or other means, may assist the movement of the carrier to the elevated position.
