[Class 97 (i)] In continuous-feed apparatus means is provided for neutralizing play in toothed gearing connecting the compensator and the film-feeding means. As shown, the compensating prism 1, having as many faces as the sprocket 18 has teeth, is carried on a driven shaft 12 driving the sprocket through a gear 15. Gears 10, 11, free on the shaft 12 are connected to pins 13 on the shaft through springs 14 tending to rotate the gears in opposite directions, both gears engaging the same teeth of the gear 15 to drive the sprocket 18 without play. Alternatively the shaft 17 may be driven. In a modification, the gears 10, 11 are replaced by a single gear, and the shaft 12 carries a disc engaging an adjustable brake band to cause the shaft 12 to lag during driving and thus take up play. The band may engage the shaft 17. Alternatively an additional friction drive may be provided between the two shafts, comprising an endless band passing over two pulleys, one fixed to the shaft 12, and the other spring-pressed against a friction disc on the shaft 17. Specifications 466,058 and 472,013 are referred to. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91, describes also the provision of circular centrifugal masses on the two shafts which each have a gear engaging a common driving worm ; the prism may be mounted between two centrifugal discs. The shafts may also be connected together directly by a connecting rod. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
