491,017. Typewriters. FAIRWEATHER, W. C. (Underwood Elliott Fisher Co.) Feb. 24, 1937, No. 5519. [Class 100 (iv)] Type-bar machines.-To enhance visibility of the printing line in noiseless machines, such as are described in Specification 241,780, [Class 100 (iv)], comprising a set of plunging type-bars 20, the type-bars and a cover 28, 38 therefor are inclined forwardly, and the platen 24 is shiftable in a direction at right-angles thereto. Preferably the type-bars, actionlinkage 16, the main parts 76 of the keylevers, the carriage 40, escapement 41, and the cover 28, 38 are as a unit dropped slightly, for instance through an angle of 10‹, about the axis of the platen. The main parts of the framework 15 are arranged vertically, and the keyboard 22 occupies the normal position.
