[Class 100 (iv)] Type-lever machines ; type-carriages.- A computing-printing machine having reciprocatory type-bars for printing amounts is provided with a laterally movable set of type-levers, or typebars having actuating-means movable therewith, for printing words, dates, &c., in association with the amounts. The machine shown in Figs. 1 and 3 comprises keys 4 for setting type-bars 8 arranged in front of a platen 7 supported by a carriage 5. For printing words &c., the machine is provided with a type-carriage 10 which runs on rails 14, 15 on the framework 2 and supports keylevers 18, and down-strike typelevers 30 having the same printing line as the type-bars 8. The key-levers are pivoted on a rod 19 and have pin-and-slot connection 34 with sub-levers 31 which are connected by links 32 to the type-levers. To provide for visible typing, the actions are arranged in two separate groups, and a cover 29 for the actions is provided at the middle with an opening. The typecarriage is urged towards the right by means of a spring drum 39, and is associated with the letter - spacing and tabulating mechanism described below. The type-levers can be employed for typing words &c., at either the left or right side of the sheet, the paper-carriage 5 being moved over to the right or left before typing is commenced. Letter-spacing mechanism; carriage-releasing arrangements ; tabulating-mechanism.-An escapement wheel 44 on the type-carriage 10 is provided with a pinion co-operating with a stationary rack 42. The escapement wheel co-operates with fast and loose dogs on horizontally swinging rocker 45 connected to a universal bar 60 operated by the key-levers 18 and a space-bar 63. A tabulating keylever 65 on the type-carriage is arranged to depress the rocker 45 and thereby release the type-carriage. The tabulating key-lever is arranged also to rock a shaft 72, and thereby move adjustable column-stops 75 on the. shaft into position for engaging a stationary stop 77. Ink-ribbon mechanism.-The type-levers 30, Fig. 3, strike an ink ribbon 81 which is wound on spools on the type-carriage 10 and passes through a slidable vibrator 85, operated by a bell-crank 87 in connection with the universal bar 60.
