Abstract

491,001. Photographic cameras. KODAK, Ltd. Feb. 17, 1938, No. 4954. Convention date, Feb. 25, 1937. [Class 98 (i)] A folding camera of the kind in which locking means are provided between film feeding mechanism and a shutter release mounted on the camera body so that operation of the release member can only be effected if a fresh area of film has been moved into the exposure position, is provided with a movably mounted member connecting the shutter release with the locking means for the winding mechanism adapted to be actuated on collapsing the hinged bed or front cover of the camera. The film is wound by a ratchet wheel 8, Fig. 1, operated by an external knob. The wheel 8 turns through gearing a disc 14 carrying pins 16, 17. The pin 17 engages notches in a counting wheel 19. The ratchet wheel is engaged by a pawl 9 pivoted at 10 and provided with a projection 12 so placed that the pawl only engages the ratchet when the projection 12 enters a notch 13 in the disc 14. To make an exposure, a knob 26, Fig. 5, is pressed inwardly, thus moving a slidable plate 27 against the action of a spring 30. This plate carries an arm having an upstanding flange 31 engaging a flange on a Y-shaped lever 33 turning it about a stud 34 by which a pin 35 sliding in a slot' 36 in a lever 37 turns it about a pin 38 causing a flange 39 to actuate the trigger 40 of a shutter 41. As the knob is pressed inwards it engages a wedge-shaped flange 42 carried on a lever 43 which also carries a stud 44 adapted to engage a groove 45 to lock the operating knob 26 when the camera is closed. The lever 43 is carried by a bell-crank 47 pivoted to a stud 48 on the side of the camera normally pressed into the position shown in Fig. 1 by a spring 50, its movement being limited by a stop 53. In this position the pin 44 is clear of the knob 26 which is pushed into operative position by a spring 55 ; when, however, the camera is closed, the bell-crank is pushed into the position shown in Fig. 2 and the pin 44 will now engage and lock the knob 26. When the knob 26 is pressed and an exposure made, the lever 23 is turned and the hooked part 57 engages a pin 17 to turn the disc 14 sufficiently to release the pawl 13 so that the film may be wound. The lever 43 is prevented from further movement by a block 58, Fig. 4, engaging the hook 57 ; the wedge-shaped member 42 on the lower end of the lever 43 forms a stop and prevents the movement of the shutter release knob until the film feed is in such a position that the pawl 9 drops into the recess 13, thus removing the block 58 from the path of the hook 57.
