[Class 142 (i)] The pattern barrels are mounted on shafts such as r, m<1>, each furnished with a single ratchet wheel s movable either the distance of one or of half a tooth by means of a double pawl t on an arm w or m operated by a reciprocating rod n. The pawl has a pushing tooth u and also a pulling tooth v spaced apart a distance of 1¢ ratchet teeth. The tooth v is held out of action during the second half of each rearward and first half of each forward movement of the rod n by means of a projection y resting thereon. Normally the tooth 'u drives the ratchet wheel the distance of one tooth at a time, but may be placed out of action by turning a shield z by pattern mechanism so that it engages a projection u<1> on the tooth u. The tooth v then rotates the ratchet wheel half a tooth, but does not rotate it further upon subsequent reciprocations of the rod n. The pattern barrel thus remains at rest until the shield is restored to its original position. The rod n may be reciprocated between limits determined by the engagement of lugs p, o, with an adjustable stop q by means of a give-way device d, i, e, and a rod c adjustably connected to the dobby side lever a.
