Abstract

490,311. Look - out reflectors for vehicles. CHARLES, A. A. D. March 15, 1937, No. 7528. [Class 103 (ii)] A reflecting device for use at an end of a motor road vehicle for reflecting to the driver laterally-approaching traffic &c. comprises an apertured casing 5 of sheet-metal &c. in which a mirror 1 is mounted for angular adjustment by a remote control. As shown, the mirror 1, which is longitudinally and transversely-curved and is slightly eccentric relatively to the casing, is formed with a central non-reflecting part 7 and is connected by an upper end frame 2 and upper and lower segmental plates or arms 3 to a spindle 4 adapted to be rotated, for example, through a Bowden wire 8 and pulley 9 against the action of a spring 9a, or through a control rod connected to a lever on the spindle 4. The sides of the casing converge downwardly to a flanged stem 10 by which the device can be mounted on the radiator cap &c. A wiper comprising rubber strips 5a may be fitted inside the casing to engage and clean the mirror when the latter is rotated.
