Abstract
489,739. Spray carburetters. WHITEMAN, W. W. Feb. 26, 1937, Nos. 5799, 5800, and 5801. Convention dates, March 11, 1936, July 14, 1936, and Nov. 6, 1936. [Class 7 (iii)] A suction-actuated air inlet valve 9, Figs. 3 and 4, carries a needle valve 11 which controls the fuel flow through a tube 7 to passages 19, 20 opening through a vertical portion of the valve head. The tube 7 may be raised and lowered by a rack-and-pinion 16. Passages 21 formed in a bevelled seating surface in the valve 9 below the passages 19 admit air to the mixing chamber 17 when the valve is seated. The fuel passes from a float chamber into a chamber containing a dashpot piston 10 connected to the valve 9, and enters the tube 7 through ports 7a. The tube 7 may be provided with an inlet 22 to I admit air into the fuel stream. In the downdraught carburetter shown in Fig: 5, the fuel is drawn up a pipe 29 into the dashpot chamber and fuel leakage from the dashpot collects in a cup 35.
