Abstract
489,446. Smokers' ash receptacles and cigar &c. extinguishers. SMITH, H. Feb. 17, 1937, No. 4707. [Class 130] A cigar or cigarette extinguisher comprises a piston-like member 9 slidable in an annular housing or barrel 7, fitted with a ring 8 for limiting outward movement of the piston, and spring fingers 14, the free ends 13 of which enter an aperture 11 in the piston. On inserting a cigar &c. in the aperture 11 and depressing the piston, the ends 13 grip and extinguish the end of the cigar. As shown in Fig. 1, the barrel 7 is supported by arms 6 on an ashtray 5 and the spring fingers 14 are formed by a C-spring secured at 15 to the tray. In modifications, the extinguisher is mounted on a receptacle such as 17, Fig. 5, which may be provided at the front with a removable hemispherical cover 18, a flat cover, or an opening in front of which is fixed an ash-tray.
