Abstract
489,368. Rubber springs; universal joints. GOLDSCHMIDT, M. Dec. 21, 1936, No. 35026. Convention date, March 9. [Class 108 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIV] In a torsion spring device comprising rubber and metal parts connected by adhesion or vulcanization, one metal hub-part 1 adapted to be secured to a member subjected to torsional oscillations, is formed with a wave-shaped profile in cross-section and is partly enclosed by the bellshaped cross-section profile of the other metal casing-part 3 so that the rubber 5 separating the parts may have large torsional displacements whereas the possible radial and axial displacements are small. As shown, the casing 3 is in two parts having flanges 4 by which the device is secured to a support, frame, foundation, &c. A plurality of such spring devices may be arranged coaxially all the casings and all the hubs being connected together, or the casing of the first device may be connected with the hub of the second device and so on. In the former case the connected hubs may take the form of a screw-thread and the casing shaped to conform therewith, relative rotatable movements of the two parts being limited by axial compression of the rubber. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers also to the use of the device as a coupling. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
