Abstract

<PICT:0488678/IV/1> The structure of rayon cakes produced by the pot-spinning process is loosened by successively bending portions of the cake wall while maintaining at least a part of the wall immersed in water. A series of cakes such as 28 may be carried on a pole 29 suspended by straps 27 from a shaped pressure member 20 pivoted at 17. On lowering this pressure member the rods are guided in slots 30 and the cakes are pressed between the bottom of the water tank 10 and the shaped face of the moving member. By quickly raising the member 20, the cakes are caused to rotate, and are pressed again. Three pressings usually suffice.
