Abstract

487,294. Batteries. PERTRIX CHEMISCHE FABRIK AKT.-GES. Sept. 25, 1937, No. 26069. Convention date, Aug. 14. [Class 53] The active material m of the positive eletrode of an air-depolarized cell is enclosed in a dish-shaped carrier through the bottom or cover of which air can pass to the active material. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the carrier s<1> is made of insulating material and is provided with openings o for the admission of air and with terminals l<1> which make contact with the active material m. Below the active material is the electrolyte e, and the bottom of the carrier is closed by the zinc electrode z<1> which is in the form of a cap which surrounds the carrier. Several cells can be joined in series by being stacked one upon another, the terminals l<1> projecting sufficiently to prevent the openings o from being closed by the adjacent cell. The zinc electrode of the end cell is provided with a current lead l<2>. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which the carrier s<2> encloses the zinc electrode z<2> and is closed by a perforated conducting cover d which may be provided with a projection l<1> to prevent obstruction of the perforations o by an adjacent cell. Alternatively the cover may be of insulating material as in Fig. 1.
