Abstract

487,173. Joint-making packing. VOIGT, C. A. April 7, 1937, No. 9923. Convention date, April 9, 1936. [Class 122 (iii)] A rubber packing-ring of rectangular or substantially rectangular cross - section is arranged between surfaces to be packed in a recess in one of the parts, and is secured adhesively to the faces of the recess. The flange 1 of an oil sump 2 is provided with a recess 3 into which a substantially rectangular rubber packing is fitted and adhesively secured. The opposing surface is provided with a halfround projection 6. In a modification, a cover is provided with annular flanges arranged at an angle to which the rectangular rubber ring is adhesively secured on two of its faces. The rubber engages a conical rim of an opening to be closed. Other rings may also be employed to form a plurality of packing edges.
