Abstract
486,664. Operating coke-oven doors. WOODALL - DUCKHAM (1920), Ltd., and KRALL, R. F. Dec. 8, 1936, No. 33647. Addition to 436,815. [Class 65 (i)] A coke-oven door-operating machine comprises a jib-member 3 mounted for rotation about a vertical axis 4 situated to one side of the door when the machine is in the operative position, the removal and replacement of the door being effected solely by the arcuate motion of the jib (the end of the jib moving substantially at right-angles to the oven face until the door is clear of the oven), hooks 18 to engage the door and means for raising and lowering the jib vertically on its axis 4 ; the necessity for pivoted door-engaging hooks and lifting mechanism carried on the jib is thus removed. The hooks 18 are preferably rotatable about a vertical axis on the jib ; in the form shown, they are fixed to a shaft 19 with a handle 21 by which the door may be guided in the oven and swung round when clear of the oven. The jib has a counterweight 7 and is fixed to the shaft 4 mounted in bearings 6 slidable on a post 2 on the carriage 1 ; the bearings are moved vertically, to raise the jib and lift the door, by lever mechanism shown, operated by a hand-wheel and screw 8, or an electric motor, assisted by a balance weight 12. The carriage is traversed along the oven fronts by an electric' motor geared to one of the carrying axles. The lower hook 18 is replaced by a buffer for certain types of doors.
