Abstract
486,516. Snap-action switches. TILLMANN, H., and PIEPENSTOCK, W. Aug. 31, 1936, No. 27315. [Class 38 (v)] In a rotary series-parallel switch for electric heating apparatus, there is an off position at each end of the rotary movement. Fig. 9 shows the general arrangement of fixed contacts 22, 23 and of movable contacts 18, 21 in the series ' position of the switch. The movable contacts 18, 21 are carried on a disc 3 which is given a snap stop-by-step action, when a shaft 4 is rotated, by means of a spring 8 the ends 8<1>, 8<2> of which embrace shoulders 3<1> on the disc and also a projection 7<1> fixed to the shaft. The disc 3 is held against movement while the spring 8 is being strained by the engagement of a notched disc 9, Fig. 4, fixed to the disc 3, with a non-rotatable notched disc 11. Between the discs 9, 11 is arranged another disc 13 having three holes passing through it. In these holes are arranged three balls 15 of greater diameter than the thickness of the disc, and the balls normally rest in recesses in the disc 9. When the shaft 4 is rotated, the disc 13 is carried round with it and the balls are forced away from the recesses so that the disc 11 is forced downwards the disc 9 becomes disengaged from it, and the disc 9 and with it the disc 3 can rotate to the next switch position.
