456,263. Springs. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. March 21, 1936, No. 8527. Convention date, March 21, 1935. [Class 108 (iii)] [See also Group XXXVII] An electrical contactor comprising a member movable between two positions with means for actuating it to one of these positions has a spring for normally biassing it to the other position, the spring being confined by an adjusting member interposed between it and a retaining bar, this member having a plurality of portions of different thickness arranged selectively to engage the bar and be locked in position thereby, thus varying the confinement of the spring to adjust the bias on the switch member. Movement takes place against the action of a compression spring 23 one end of which bears against a slot 23<1> formed in the rear face of the armature, Fig. 3, and the other end bearing against an adjusting member 26. This member 26 is formed with a number of diametrical slots 27 .. 29 one of such slots normally engaging a cross-member 19 of the U-shaped bracket 18 which member serves as a retaining bar. Thus the compression of the spring may be varied by moving the member 26 inwardly to free the slot from the bar and then rotating the adjusting member till a slot of different depth is opposite the bar, the member then being released and automatically locked in position by the reaction of the spring.
