Abstract
Azo dyes, forming on the material; printing.-Compositions, in the form of powders, pastes or solutions, for use in printing textile materials, e.g. cotton, regenerated cellulose, cellulose esters or ethers, wool or silk, in dark brown and black shades of satisfactory fastness to washing, chlorine, chlorine laundering and light, comprise an unsubstituted aminonaphthol and a diazoamino compound from a diazotized arylamine, which may be substituted by alkyl, aralkyl, aryl, alkoxyl, aralkoxyl, aryloxyl, hydroaryloxyl, trifluoroalkyl or halogen. The use is specified of the 1 : 2-, 1 : 4-, 1 : 5-, 1 : 6-, 1 : 7-, 1 : 8-, 2 : 1-, 2 : 3-, 2 : 6-, 2 : 7- and 2 : 8-aminonaphthols. Specified arylamines are 2-chloraniline, 2 : 5 - dichloraniline, 4 - chloro - 2-aminophenetole, 2 - anisidine, 4 - chloro - 2 : 5-dimethylaniline, 4 - benzoylamino - 2 : 5 - dimethoxyaniline, 5 - nitro - 2 - aminoanisole, 1-methoxy - 2 - aminonaphthalene, 4 - chloro - 2-aminodiphenyl ether, 3-aminobenzotrifluoride, o-aminoazotoluene, 4 : 41 - diaminodiphenylamine, 3-aminocarbazole, 4-chloro-2-aminoanisole, 4-chloro-2-aminotoluene, dianisidine and 4 - carbomethoxyamino - 2 : 5 - diethoxyaniline. Specified stabilizing agents for use in preparing the diazoamino compounds are piperidine - a - carboxylic acid, sarcosine, 1-methylaminoethane-2-sulphonic acid, proline, nipecotinic acid, 1-aminonaphthalene-2 : 4 : 8-trisulphonic acid, 2-ethylamino-4-sulphobenzoic acid and methylglucamine. In examples: (1) the diazoamino compound from diazotized 4-chloro-2-aminoanisole and piperidine-a -carboxylic acid is ground with 1 : 7-aminonaphthol and the resulting powder is mixed with ethylene glycol monoethyl ether, sodium hydroxide solution, starch-gum tragacanth thickener and water to obtain a paste which is printed on cotton piece goods, the prints being dried, exposed to steam containing acetic acid, rinsed, soaped, rinsed and dried to obtain a fast brown; (2) the diazo component in (1) is replaced by 4-chloro-2-aminotoluene; (3) the coupling component in (1) is replaced by 1 : 5-aminonaphthol mixed with sugar; (4) the diazoamino compound from tetrazotized dianisidine and methylglucamine is ground with 1 : 7-aminonaphthol and mixed with ground sugar and a printing paste is prepared from the resulting powder and printed as in (1) to obtain a fast black; (5) a mixture of the diazoamino compound of (4) with the anilide of 2 : 3-hydroxynaphthoic acid and sugar is incorporated with the powder in (4). A table is also given showing the shades of the prints obtainable with numerous combinations of components. Specifications 309,610, 320,324, 329,353, [all in Class 15 (ii)], and 443,222 are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a reference to the colouring of leather and to the use of other diazotized arylamine derivatives which do not couple under alkaline conditions, e.g. nitrosamines and azosulphonates, and includes an example of the printing of cotton with an aqueous paste containing the nitrosamine of 4-chloro-2-aminoanisole, 1 : 7-aminonaphthol, caustic soda and starch tragacanth thickener, drying, subjecting to the action of acetic acid vapour, rinsing and drying to obtain a fast brown. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 464,511.
