Abstract
484,803. Electromagnetic switches- OSBORN, H. J., and OSBORN & SHARP, Ltd., H. J. Nov. 10, 1936, No. 30648. [Class 38 (v)] An electromagnetic cut-out switch of the kind in which the contacts are automatically separated on the occurrence of an overload or the like and are held in the open position by a stop or catch, comprises an electromagnet 1, an armature 15 supported on guide pins 17 at each end so that it can slide parallel to itself, contacts 13 mounted on, but insulated from the armature and adapted to engage and connect fixed contacts 14, and a stop member 18 mounted on a rod 19 supported in bearings at each end, the stop member being prevented from movement by the armature while the circuit is closed, while it moves under the armature under the action of a spring 20 and prevents reclosure of the circuit after it has been opened. Springs 16 normally hold the armature in the circuit-closed position, but when the current through the coil 3 on the electromagnet exceeds a predetermined value, the armature is attracted against the action of the springs and the circuit is opened. The invention can be applied to the relay-operated switching arrangements described in Specification 482,297, an auxiliary armature carrying the relay contacts being then provided.
