Abstract
484,666. Metal heating furnaces. BEDFORD, R. A. Nov. 5. 1936, Nos. 30180/36 and 21223/37. Addition to 449,464. [Class 51 (ii)] A furnace for heating the ends of rods, bars, &c. 16 according to the parent Specification is formed with a central longitudinal wall 10 which extends down to the combustion chamber 4 and provides a narrow work-treating chamber 13 on each side of the furnace. The combustion chamber 4 is fired from both ends and there are provided upper walls 17 which form, with the central wall 10, flues 18 through which the gases from the chambers 13 pass to chimneys 19. Shields 26 are provided on each side of the furnace to protect operators from heat. A modification is described in which the furnace is divided into two separate portions by transverse walls which extend outwardly from the wall 10 through the combustion chamber 4, the work-treating chambers 13 and the flues 18, this arrangement permitting the use of one portion of the furnace either alone or at a different temperature from the other portion.
