Abstract

216,012. Macnamara, S. J., and Girkins, B. S. July 18, 1923. Air, supplying for combustion; baffles; grates.-In a fireplace, furnace, cr the like, of the kind having primary and secondary combustion chambers completely separated by an apertured partition or arch, the partition is formed of spaced slabs forming tube sheets connected by tubes, through which the combustion products pass and around which air may be heated for delivery to the secondary combustion chamber. The Figure shows an open fireplace comprising a basket-grate having a back formed of upright bars 3. behind which is a partition formed of slabs of refractory material 4, 5 connected by tubes 6. Behind the partition is the secondary combustion chamber 7 backed by a row of tubes 8 of refractory material interposed between upper and lower inclined reflectors 9, 10. Air from the ash-pit passes up around the tubes 6 and into the chamber 7.
