Abstract

484,294. Stabilizing ships. STEINEN, C. VON DEN. July 29, 1936, Nos. 21003, 21004, 21005, and 21006. Convention dates, July 29, 1935, July 29, 1935, July 29, 1935, and Jan. 12, 1936. [Class 113 (i)] A ship-stabilizing device tends to maintain its vertical plane in line with the apparent vertical, i.e. maintains it perpendicular to the effective wave slope. Motors 6, 7 operate propellers 4, 5 to adjust the water level in the tanks 1, 2 under the control of the gyroscopic pendulum 29. A pendulum 31 which takes up the direction of the apparent vertical operates the motor 24 to vary the transmission ratio of the linkage 16, 17, thus constituting an overriding control. In a modification the gyroscope 29 is replaced by a device indicating angular acceleration.
