Abstract
483,948. Cooling cylinders. DOMANMARKS ENGINE CO., Inc. May 28, 1937, No. 14895. Convention date, March 24. [Class 7 (ii)] Cooling air is supplied to two conduits 16, 19 extending along opposite sides of a bank of cylinders, that from the conduit 16 flowing through spaces 17 between circumferential cooling fins, and that from the conduit 19 flowing through nozzles 20 extending to the fins. The two currents unite to leave by passages 21 leading to the cylinder bases and the crank-chamber. The cylinders may be separate with overlapping fins, or they may be formed as a single casting, alternate fins being omitted between adjacent cylinders to form the passages 17. The air is supplied by a centrifugal pump 22, guides 28 being provided in the conduit 19, which is, preferably, converging in cross-section. If the cylinder heads have wells 35, further cooling air is supplied by a converging conduit 36 having branches 37 mounted on shoulders 38 in radiating ribs 34.
