Abstract

483,727. Printing-surfaces. BOWEN, E. WINDSOR-. July 20, 1936, No. 20084. [Class 100 (ii)] Planographic printing-surfaces are formed from thin sheets or foils of aluminium which has been subjected on one or both surfaces to an anodizing treatment. The sheet or foil is sufficiently thin to enable it to be inserted in a typewriter, and the design is applied thereto by means of a composition with which the ink-ribbon is impregnated, the prepared sheet being employed without the necessity for treating with a gum solution. The anodized aluminium is subjected to a treatment with water or an aqueous solution of cobalt acetate, nickel acetate, and, if desired, boric acid, heated to a temperature of 200-212‹ F. ; if the solution of salts is employed, the sheet is preferably treated subsequently in boiling water. The anodized surfaces may be dyed in order to destroy or modify the glossy appearance and reflective properties. The sheet may be backed with paper or other flexible material, and may be provided with means for securing it in place in a duplicating-machine. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 6701/00, [Class 100], 364,226, 398,825, 418,498, [all in Group XXXVI], and 421,217.
