[Class 75 (ii)] In a lampshade having a stepped lower portion, as described in the parent Specification, the vertical surfaces 4 of the steps are made of diffusing glass and the horizontal surfaces 3 of clear glass with re-entrant folds or channels 6 where they join the vertical surfaces so that the latter are extended and adjacent portions thereof leave no gaps for the escape of any direct rays from the light source. The upper portion 1 and the vertical surfaces 4 may be made of clear glass faced with clouded glass, whilst the bottom 5 may consist of frosted clear glass. The bottom of the shade may be provided with a hole which is closed by an interchangeable dishshaped member. The shade may be formed from a single piece of glass or from independent upper and lower portions held together by means of a ring. The complete shade, or the lower portion only thereof, may be frosted or faced with clouded glass on the inside or outside surface, and then, where necessary, the superficial layers may be partially or completely removed by grinding or etching. The clear glass thus exposed may be subjected to renewed frosting in order to obtain various degrees of transparency.
