[Class 122 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVII] In a four-stroke internal-combustion engine comprising x rows of y radially arranged cylinders, the crank-shaft has y throws which are not symmetrically arranged, but are angularly spaced , 360‹/xy, or a multiple thereof, excepting 360‹/x, or a multiple thereof, y being an odd number and x and y being both greater than 2. Formulae are given for ascertaining the arrangement, for different firing orders, of crank-shaft throws, and of balance weights at opposite ends of the crank-shaft and the masses thereof, calculations being effected for a 27 cylinder engine arranged in nine rows of 3 each.
