Abstract
481,915. Pencil holders. FARRINGTON, H. M. Nov. 9, 1936, No. 27408. [Class 146 (iii)] In a pencil holder having a step-by-step adjustment of the lead, the lead-carrier c, which is slidable 'within limits in the casing, is slotted intermediate its ends so as to leave the ends unslotted, and the slotted portion is formed with one or more tapered projections c<2> adapted to be engaged by a conical bore of a collar d to cause the carrier to grip the lead over a substantial part of its length. The carrier is under the control of a spring g mounted in a bore in the point section, and the movement of the collar is limited by the upper end of the point section and an indentation a<2> in the casing to provide for the release and gripping of the lead. The reciprocation of the carrier may be effected by pressure on or rotation of a knob which is removable to provide for insertion of the leads. A partition h may be mounted in the casing to form the base of a refill receptacle, or provision for the automatic feeding of refills from a magazine to the lead-carrier may be made. In a modification, the collar d is fixed and serves for the connection of the casing and point section, the spring g acting between the collar and a washer secured to the lead-carrier.
