480,500. Brakes for motor vehicles. SOWERBY, H. May 13, 1937, No. 13515. [Class 103 (i)] Both the hand lever 6 and pedal 7 of a brake system of a motor vehicle are connected to the brake transmission by a pin-and-slot 5, the slot having a rack adapted to engage the pin. By this means both lever and pedal can be used to exert effort on the brakes from the commencement of their movement without lost motion. The racks are kept out of engagement with the pins by spring push rods 8 until the corresponding lever or pedal is actuated when the rack is moved up into engagement with its co-operating pin. The pin may be replaced by a pawl having a flat side adapted to engage the upper edge of the slot.
