Abstract

479,732. Valve generating circuits. RADIOAKT.-GES. D. S. LOEWE. June 11, 1937, No. 16244. Convention date, June 20, 1936. [Class 40 (v)] The frequency of a relaxation oscillator is adjusted without varying the amplitude by variation of the resistance through which the condenser is charged. As shown, a potentiometer comprising resistances 7, 8, 5 is connected across the supply source 1. The condenser 3 is charged from a tapping on the resistance 7 through a resistance 2, the charging-current also flowing through the resistance 5. A further resistance 9 connects the tapping to the positive side of the source 1..The condenser 3 discharges through a gas-filled discharge tube 4 and a low resistance 6, the grid of the tube being biassed by the voltage across the resistance 5. Frequency is adjusted by moving the tapping on the resistance 7, and the connections are such that the current through the resistance 5 and therefore the bias on the grid of the tube 4 are substantially unaffected by the frequency adjustment. The oscillations may be fed to an amplifier 13 through a condenser 12 and a potential divider 15, 16 which applies only a small fraction of the available voltage to the grid. The fine frequency adjustment provided by the resistance 7 may be supplemented by a coarse adjustment in steps, by providing a number of condensers 3 and a number of resistances 9 with a multiple-contact switch for selecting one of each, Fig. 2 (not slown).
