Abstract
478,960. Carbonizing-apparatus. HELLMANN, O. July 23, 1936, No. 20443. [Glass 55 (i)] In an oven for coking fuel supported directly on a stationary heating surface in flat moulds without base plates and which are movable on the heating surface, the moulds traverse a closed path within the oven, adjacent stationary filling and emptying points being provided therein. The moulds may follow a circular track or a pair of forward and backward longitudinal tracks. A number of sector-shaped moulds e united to form a circular arrangement by means of an outer peripheral toothed ring, move over stationary circular heating surfaces, a number of such units being superimposed within the oven. The coked material is discharged through registering openings in the heating surfaces through a common delivery f on to a conveyer f<1>. The moulds are then ready for filling from a common hopper a which supplies the fuel to each of a number of corresponding loading boxes d by means of conveyers c. The outer toothed rings are driven by engagement with gear wheels g carried on a common shaft. The heating gases from the lowermost unit flow through the superimposed units with addition of fresh hot gas if desired. Cover plates s may be mounted over the moulds, movable in a vertical direction only, to inhibit dilation of the fuel and to insulate the upper parts of the moulds. In a modification of the invention, the circular tracks are replaced by superimposed tracks forming two sets of forward and backward longitudinal heating oven units b, a, Fig. 3, respectively. Movement of the moulds 1 from one track to its parallel track or along the track is effected by means of plungers actuated by external machines 12. The coked material is discharged through gaps in the units into a common delivery 10 by means of projections on the undersides of plates 9, Fig. 6, which strike the material in the moulds repeatedly. The moulds are then filled from a common hopper 5, Fig. 5, connected to a discontinuous shaft extending through all the units. Burners 16 and auxiliary burners 17 are provided to supply heating gases to the superimposed units. The fuel is preferably pre-heated to 100-250‹ C. before introduction into the moulds.
