Abstract

478,901. Seats ; seat backs. STANDARD MOTOR CO., Ltd., and GRINHAM, E. G. Sept. 24, 1936, No. 25938. [Class 52 (ii)] A seat-back for a vehicle seat comprises a U -shaped frame 3, preferably pivotally mounted on the seat frame, supporting a back-rest consisting of a sheet 11, or interconnected strips, of canvas or like non - metallic material, the side edges only of which are connected to the side limbs of the frame by substantially horizontal coil springs 10. The upper edge of the sheet 11 may be free or connected to the top of the frame by a flexible connection 13 ; the lower edge is unsupported. At least two springs at each side may be oppositely inclined slightly to the horizontal. A resilient pad of rubber or other material is attached to the sheet 11, and the whole back-rest is preferably enclosed in suitable upholstery. Adjustment of the limiting position of the back-rest is effected by means of screws 6 mounted in the seat frame 2 and abutting against a member 5 secured to the lower part of the frame 3. A downturned flange 5a on the member 5 screens the screws 6.
