Abstract
478,741. Machines for making ropes &c. FAIRBAIRN LAWSON COMBE BARBOUR, Ltd., and BEE, J. R. July 24, 1936, No. 20693. [Class 109] In twine-laying &c. machines additional brake mechanism, acting on the bobbins when the machine is stopped, is used to prevent overrunning. The ordinary brake or drag device consists of a plate 12 carrying spring pins 12a taking into the head 2d of each bobbin 2. The plate is fixed to hubs 13a projecting from a brake disc 13 mounted on the hub 14a of a disc 14. Another disc 15 mounted on the hub 14a is connected to an arm 16 fixed to the hub 14a. The arm 16 works over a fixed bar 17 and the hub 14a is mounted on the hub 2a of the bobbin 2. The additional brakes comprise bars 19 mounted in threes on shafts 20. The brakes are connected to the stop-motion. When the stop-motion is operated each brake surface 19a comes down on a flange 13b of the corresponding disc 13 and prevents overrunning. The stop-motion is operated by failure of the twine supply. When this occurs a detector lever 30a, 30b or 30c normally retained in position by the twines moves clockwise on its pivot and brings its counterweight 30 into engagement with a lever 29. A trip device acting on beltshifting mechanism and on the additional brakes is thus put into action.
