Abstract
477,202. Cigarette making machines. LERNER, F. June 16, 1937, No. 16703. Convention date, Oct. 7, 1936. [Class 130] Lengths of cork or like tipping material are severed from a continuously-fed web of the material by perforating the web transversely at suitable intervals, passing the web through feeding and pasting means, and tearing off the foremost pasted length by temporarily clamping it on a suction conveyer travelling at a greater speed than the web. The tipping material may be used to attach filter plugs or mouthpieces to cigarettes. As shown, the web 2 from a reel 1 passes over a roller 3 and a plate 4 to feeding and pasting rollers 5, 6, the roller 5 receiving paste from a container 7. The web is perforated transversely by a perforating knife 17 on a slide reciprocated over a support 16 by a cam 21 and lever 20. The support 16 is reciprocated along a shaft 10 by a cam 15 co-operating with a spring 13. From the rollers 5, 6 the web passes to a suction conveyer 30, on which it is clamped by blades 28 on a roller 27 to tear off the perforated lengths. The surface of the pasting roller 5 may be roughened.
