Abstract

Tooth pastes comprise sodium perborate, liquid petrolatum, a body-supplying component, and an emulsifying-agent consisting of soap or sodium lauryl sulphate or sodium cetyl sulphate, and, preferably, a higher alcohol such as cetyl or lauryl alcohol. The body-supplying component may be colloidal kaolin or ceresin or mixtures of these or bentonite, magnesium stearate, magnesium carbonate, calcium sulphate, calcium phosphate, or fuller's earth.ALSO:Tooth pastes comprise sodium perborate, liquid petrolatum, a body-supplying component such as colloidal kaolin or ceresin or both, an emulsifying-agent consisting of powdered soap or sodium lauryl sulphate or sodium cetyl sulphate, and preferably a higher p alcohol such as cetyl or lauryl alcohol. The perborate used may be the tetrahydrate or the monohydrate. The ingredients are mixed in the cold state, or, when ceresin is used, the heated mixture is cooled before the perborate is added. The liquid petrolatum used may vary in specific gravity between 0,778 and 0,89. Colloidal kaolin may be replaced by bentonite, magnesium stearate, magnesium carbonate, calcium sulphate, calcium phosphate or fuller's earth. A mixture of saccharin and oil of wintergreen may be used as a flavouring. Mixtures of sodium perborate with petroleum jelly are also referred to.
