Abstract

475,414. Machinery guards. UDAL, J. D. May 15, 1936, No. 13783. [Class 80 (iv)] The guard of a power press is in two parts : (1) a hanging frame A with horizontal guard bars b ; (2) a frame B with bars k adapted to reciprocate lengthwise of the frame A. A hangs loosely from a shaft d or is held by a spring f. B is connected either to a rotary crank q, or to clutch-operating mechanism by rods m, levers n, s, fast on the shaft d, and rods t, u. In the latter case, guard B is in guarding position before the clutch is engaged. If a hand is in the danger zone so that it obstructs the descent of guard B it is held between the two guards as shown and is thereupon moved away from the machine. If the machine is started inadvertently before guard B is in its bottom position, a lever o, which in this form is loose on the shaft d, engages a roller 3 on the lever s and so moves the guard.
