Abstract
474,413. Yarns. BELL, A. S. Nov. 26, 1936, No. 32336. [Class 120 (iii)] A composite yarn is formed by doubling together a crimped and an uncrimped yarn in one direction and then doubling the doubled yarn with one or more similar doubled yarns in the reverse direction. Each uncrimped component yarn may be twisted in the direction opposite to the direction of its doubling twist but to a lesser extent and at least one of such yarns may comprise two or more uncrimped yarns twisted together, in a direction opposite to that of the doubling twist. The crimped component may be of a greater denier than the uncrimped component and may be of greater length so that it spirals around the uncrimped component while the yarns are being doubled together. The components of the composite yarn may be of like or of different materials and of a fibrous or continuous character, e.g. a cellulose acetate yarn may be formed from crimped or uncrimped yarns of continuous filaments and the yarns may have different characteristics, e.g. of lustre, colour or saponification, and may have been stretched to impart a high tenacity thereto. The crimp may be imparted to the filament or fibres by rollers and may be set by steam, or by twisting, setting and untwisting the yarn as a whole, by treatment with hot aqueous liquors in the case of cellulose acetate and similar substances, e.g. as described in Specification 459,781, or by any combination of these processes and the crimp may be fixed by the process described in Specification 455,021. A crimped cellulose acetate yarn may be produced by the processes described in Specifications 424,880, 442,073 ; and 464,981, [Group II]. Specifications 474,401 and 474,402 also are referred to.
