Abstract

473,541. Steering motor vehicles. STABLEFORD, J. L. March 11, 1936, No. 7379. [Class 79 (v)] [Also in Group XXXII] In a vehicle independent wheel suspension the stub axle is carried by a collar 4 guided on a vertical column 3 disposed at each end of a transverse member or axle tree 1 connecting the chassis members 2. The column 3 is also provided with an upper collar 6 adapted to rotate only on the column and the two collars are interconnected by the springing arrangement which comprises a pair of wire elliptic springs 5 disposed one on each side of the column 3. The top of the column is stayed from the chassis by diagonal stays 8 and the steering arm 9 is connected to the upper collar 6, the steering arm and its track rod 10 being thus spring suspended and the steering movement being transmitted through the springs 5 from the upper to the lower collar 4 and so to the wheel.
