Abstract
A material particularly for electric contacts consists of one or more carbides of tungsten, molybdenum, chromium, and uranium, and up to 20 per cent, preferably 1-12 per cent, of one or more of the metals platinum, ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, osmium, and iridium. Preferably, tungsten carbide is used containing 3-8 per cent of carbon. Examples are described consisting of tungsten carbide with specified proportions of (a) iridium, (b) osmium, and (c) rhodium and osmium. The products may be made by melting, or sintering, or both.
