Abstract
<PICT:0471382/IV/1> Apparatus for steaming a running thread, particularly for cr<\>zepe twisting threads of cellulose acetate whilst they are under the influence of the steam, comprises a steam chamber 7 having an aperture 12 for the entrance of the thread and through which steam can escape from the chamber, and a shield 13 adapted to retain in the neighbourhood of the thread approaching the aperture a mixture of air with the steam issuing from the aperture. The shield preferably takes the form of a perforated funnel. The thread may be delivered from a spindle provided with a floating ring as described in Specification 304,806, [Class 120 (ii)], or a ring spindle apparatus may be used, the shield 13 then being fixed on the upper side of the chamber 7. The steam chamber may be of the form described in Specification 440,653.
