Abstract
469,406. Treating gases with liquids. SCHNEIBLE, C. B. Jan. 23, 1936, No. 2220. [Class 55 (ii)] A column for treating gases or vapours with liquids such as dust-separating or distilling columns or washing or absorption towers with a gas inlet 18 at the bottom, two liquid supplies 23, 13 placed one above the other and with means between the two to collect water from the upper supply, has, between the gas inlet and the lower water inlet and between the two liquid supplies, baffles 11, 12 to give the gas a swirling motion and to direct it towards the walls. The gas enters tangentially at 18 and a deflector plate 14 forms falling water into a curtain broken by the gas. Vertical curved vanes 12 are mounted between a plate 11 and an annular ring 10 on the wall of the casing leading water towards the centre. The lower ring 24 of the upper supply has a collar 25 forming a liquid collecting trough with an outlet 26. A protective ring 19 is placed inside the lower end of the casing. A similar baffle 10, 11, 12 is placed above the upper liquid supply 23 to separate liquid particles which are returned by pipes 22. Oil may be recirculated in the upper part of the casing and water passed through the lower part. The gas is drawn off centrally at 20.
