Abstract

469,343. Roller and roller - and - breast mills. MILBOURNE, S. M., and FRANKS, F. March 27, 1936, No. 9199. [Class 59] A toothed roller for roller or roller-and-breast mills has the toothed drum formed by two or more part cylindrical sections clamped axially of the drum between a pair of drum end members one of which is movable along the roller shaft to dismantle the sections without disturbing the roller bearings. As shown applied to coacting rollers 1, 2, the roller 2 is mounted in fixed bearings and is provided with a flywheel 10 and fast and loose pulleys 11, 12. The roller 1 is carried by pendulum members 5 and is movably against the compression of a spring 7. The teeth or cutters of the roll are in longitudinal sections having tapered edges gripped by drum flanges 13, 14, the latter being fixed to a sleeve 19 slidable on a reduced part of the shaft 9 and engaging therewith by its splined end which is retained in position by a nut 20. The teeth are removed from the drum by removing .nut 20 and sliding the flange 14 away from the flange 13 whereby the hook 23 may be disengaged from its slot in the spigot 22 and the section removed.
