Abstract

<PICT:0469185/III/1> In apparatus for the heat treatment of materials such as synthetic resins comprising an internally heated horizontally disposed roller or a pair of rollers A, B (in which case B is rotated at a faster speed than A), the material to be treated is fed into the space between a pair of transversely disposed baffle plates C and progressively supplied to similar succeeding compartments by means of knives D each associated with a baffle plate and bearing on the roller, or the faster one when two are used. The length of the knife and its angular disposition are adjusted to remove all the material between a pair of baffle plates in the case of a single roller or a strip of the material only when a pair of rollers are used. The lower edge of the baffle plates is shaped to fit closely to the rollers to prevent lateral movement of the material thereon. The material is preferably fed to the apparatus at one end and removed by a blade E at the opposite end.
