Statistical machines. - Cards for statistical machines are treated at one or more edges, or borders, with varnish or similar substance in order to strengthen them to resist the crushing action of such machines. This may be done by treating with varnish the sides of the roll from which the cards are subsequently cut. The treated cards may be placed between hot rollers and the varnish may be applied immediately prior to printing, with a drying operation in between. The varnish may be coloured and is preferably a solution of synthetic resin. Specification 7099/11, [Class 16, Books &c.], is referred to.
