Abstract

468,740. Trailer -vehicle couplings and brakes. SCHRORPER, K., and SCHROTER, H. Dec. 14, 1936, No. 34345. Convention date, Dec. 12, 1935. [Classes 103 (v) and 108 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIV] The front wheels 2 of a trailer 1 are secured to a coupling bar 4 connected by universal joint 18 to the tractor and the front of the tractor is supported by a member 6 pivoted to the trailer at 9 and supported on the bar 4 by a ball joint 5 in a block 7 slidable along the bar. The block is slidable along the bar to vary the weight of the trailer on the tractor and is locked in position by a lever 8 operated by a cord by the driver of the tractor. The supporting member 6 has a pivotable movement between adjustable stops 12, 13 to operate the brakes through telescopic rods 16, 17, link 10, and brake lever 11. The brakes are withdrawn by a tension spring 14 and, when the tractor is backed or the trailer overruns the tractor, the member 6 pivots against the stop 12 and the brakes are applied. When the trailer is being towed the member 6 abuts against stops 13 and the brakes are released.
