Abstract
468,622. Moulding pulp. HAWLEY PRODUCTS, Ltd. (Hawley Products Co.) Jan. 2, 1936, No. 14314/37. Divided out of 469,882. [Class 87 (ii)] In moulding articles by accreting fibrous material upon a porous former, the accreted layer is compressed and dried between a hot, rigid, contoured die 28 and a yieldable pressing die 21 having at its surface rigid drain elements 34. The accreted layer may be produced by dipping a porous former in a bath of suspended fibres and applying suction, and the layer may be initially compressed on the former by a yieldable member which may consist of the die 21. The rigid die 28 is connected to a box 30 provided with electric or other heating means. The draining elements 34 may comprise ducts 35 having inlet funnels 36 and outlets 37. The funnels 36 are closed by perforated, contoured caps 38. The die 21 is secured on a plate 22 mounted on a box 25 connected to suction by a pipe 45. The ducts 35 are free to move in holes 47 and are retained by collars 48. The accreted layer is removed from the former and transferred to the die 28. Transference may be effected by the die 21 if it is used for initial com pression. The die 21 is raised to bring the layer into pressing contact with the die 28. To prevent adherence, the die 28 may be coated with beeswax. During pressing, steam, water and..vapours are removed through the ducts 35 and the suction pipe 45.
