Abstract

468,301. Making closure caps. TRIGGS, W. W. (Anchor Cap & Closure Corporation) March 25, 1936, No. 8866. [Class 83 (ii)] [Also in Group XVII] A metal closure cap 1 for screw-top containers having lugs 5 for engagement with the screw-thread is formed by beading inwardly the edge of a flanged blank of metal, and forcing the inner wall of the bead outwardly at spaced positions to leave the inwardly directed lugs 5, the lower part of the lugs also being pressed outwardly during the operations. A flanged blank 2, Fig. 5, has a beaded edge 7 formed thereon, and an annular depression 8 is formed at the bottom of the bead. Spaced portions 9 of the bead are then pressed against the surface of the flange 2, leaving lugs 5 which are finally accurately shaped and positioned. In a modification, the upper part of the cap is of polygonal shape, the sides 12, Fig. 10 being flush with the inner surface of the bead lying between the lugs 5.
